Manufacturing with numerical control machines: manual and computer-assisted programming
Keywords:
computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, computer numerical control, cutting tools, iso programming codes, cutting parameters, simulation, virtual learning environmentsSynopsis
This book aims to simplify the programming process and the utilization of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) for engineers and technicians interested in adopting this manufacturing technology. It has been meticulously crafted based on years of hands-on experience in using this technology to fabricate machine parts and instruct others on its application. The book enables readers to gain a clear understanding of the origin of this machining strategy. Through illustrative examples, it guides readers on how to program a lathe or a milling machine, offering detailed instructions on machine preparation for the seamless execution of manufacturing processes. A crucial chapter has been included to explain the most essential concepts for utilizing Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) tools. This addition is imperative because, as the geometric complexity of a part to be manufactured increases, the manual development of programming code becomes extensive. Towards the end of the text, exercises are provided to verify whether the concepts developed throughout the book are comprehensive enough to manufacture components for industrial equipment. The authors present fundamental concepts, ensuring readers have a successful start in utilizing a lathe or a machining center (CNC). Consequently, this book, while not exhaustive, encapsulates what is necessary for the successful utilization of these machines, drawing from the authors' substantial experience.
